In Conversation with Lisa Trainer from Red Door Interiors
RED DOOR INTERIORS
Red Door Interiors is a dynamic Glasgow based interior design studio passionate about creating unique, distinctive spaces focused on attention to detail. From concept to completion Lisa and her team offer expertise in all aspects of residential and commercial projects.
What inspired you to be an interior designer?
Inspired by my dad and brother who are both architects, I naturally fell into a creative path and decided to specialise in designing interior spaces as an alternative but close link to architecture. I love the more intimate and imaginative detail of interior design and the holistic impact a carefully considered palette of materials, colours, textures, light and products can make.
If they were to make a toy action figure of you, what would your accessory be?
A robotic arm which could design, create, build and make any 3 dimensional space..
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life within the design world has taken?
My journey here has perhaps been back to front. Having brought up and established my family since graduating, I have only now launched myself into the complexities of an ever changing design world. Opening my studio in Glasgow's west end is one of the best decisions I have made and is establishing itself in a way I could never have imagined!
What would be your dream interior project?
To design and build a unique, well-considered contemporary home elevated over water to live in now with my family...
What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I showcase, support and use unique Scottish design talent where possible, in all aspects of interiors including textile and wallpaper design, lighting and furniture.
If you could go back in time and speak to your adolescent self, what advice would you give them about the design world?
Be bold, be brave and believe in your unique self. Work hard with confidence and always be ready to learn something new...
