In Conversation with Katie Malik
Katie Malik Interiors is a holistic, lifestyle led interior design practice based in Cambridge. We specialise in residential home redesigns and improvements and work globally.
What inspired you to be an interior designer?
I have been surrounded by great designs through my father. It was something I have picked up naturally as I was determined to find out how spaces can work better for people living in them.
If they were to make a toy action figure of you, what would your accessory be?
This is a tricky question...possible a jewellry piece, a beautiful, unusual ring or a necklace with a rare stone.
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life within the design world has taken?
I have been pro-active setting up my business and making decisions about the direction I wanted to head towards, so I would say I have controlled my career in design to a large extend.
What would be your dream interior project?
My dream interior project would be probably a boutique retreat focused on wellbeing.
What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
The essence of our interior design work is about helping our clients turn their design aspirations into successful projects. We are committed to delivering exceptional designs and we strive to exceed our clients expectations. In our design process, we take a hollistic approach in how individuals live and enjoy their spaces, and we understand that it's important for our clients to have a very clear vision of how their space is going to look and feel like, that's why, although we're a small studio, we provide photorealistic visuals of the highest quality to our clients to assist them in the design process. Whilst most studios provide those at an extra cost, we include them in the package.
If you could go back in time and speak to your adolescent self, what advice would you give them about the design world?
Start early, don't be afraid to take risks and look for as many collaborations as possible to explore different design avenues.
