In Conversation with Josephine Lecoufle-Vinet

Joséphine Lecouflé-Vinet is an interior designer and stylist based in North London, known for her love of colour, texture and pattern.

What inspired you to be an interior designer?

My father, definitely. He is an antique dealer and I've always lived in amazing houses packed with character and filled with great pieces.

If they were to make a toy action figure of you, what would your accessory be?

A tape measure and a scrapbook. I collect them and I sometimes have 3 in my bag when visiting clients!

To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life within the design world has taken?

I don't think I really control anything yet. However, I'm more confident than when I opened my studio, my passion for interior design is a real booster. I also try to follow my instincts as much as possible in terms of projects and design.

What would be your dream interior project?

I'd love to design a Parisian apartment, a beautiful 5 bedrooms Haussmannian property. I've always worked in London and I think my design is very French. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be surprised to see that my style is infused with English references.

What’s something you know you do differently than most people?

I don't think I do anything different, yet my culture and background are different from any other British designers so that's how I created my own style: I don't like symmetry, I love the colours, patterns and obviously French antiques.

If you could go back in time and speak to your adolescent self, what advice would you give them about the design world?

Don't be scared and trust yourself. Your experience will take over your shyness.
