What inspired you to be an interior designer?
I have always been interested in interiors and especially furniture. As a child I had a Wendy house and would forever be making furniture and decorating it, so I believe it stems from my childhood. I’m also fascinated by Mediterranean architecture, which is where I get a lot of inspiration and where many of my ideas come from.
If they were to make a toy action figure of you, what would your accessory be?
A horse - lady Godiva comes to mind!
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life within the design world has taken?
I got into interior design by fluke. Having gone down the wrong route when I was younger I ended up following the way I only way I knew in the IT world. Then, in 2005 my life changed and I was given the opportunity to change my career path. This enabled me to follow my dreams of becoming an interior designer, although the route was not the usual orthodox one.
What would be your dream interior project?
A vast contemporary villa on the beach in a beautiful secluded location over looking the Mediterranean Sea. Juliettes Interiors offers a variety of stunning, luxurious outdoor furniture, which is perfect for outdoor living, so I’d love to get creative, both inside and out, to create perfect harmony between both indoor and outdoor living.
What’s something you now you do differently than most people?
I am passionate about offering the best possible service with integrity to my customers. It gives me such feel good factor to see the delight on my customers’ faces and I would say this sets me apart from most, as they know I only want to do the best job for them. It builds such confidence for everyone involved and ensures that they return to seek my expert advice time and time again.
If you could go back in time and speak to your adolescent self, what advice would you give them about the design world?
I wish I had started earlier when I left school and gone to University to study like the designers of today, but where I came from no one knew interior designers existed. My parents were from a middle class background based in the centre of England, so I was given no direction to follow my heart. We’ve just launched Juliettes Design School at Juliettes Interiors, so we can now offer the opportunity for those who wish to change their career paths a brief taste of the skills needed to become an interior designer. I’m really excited to share our knowledge with passionate individuals who choose to attend our intensive course and I’ve loved following our students’ projects so far.
